All Classical Music Explained

Rainer Hersch’s hilarious show, All Classical Music Explained – Live!, returns to UK theatres this autumn.

Rainer Hersch is half German, half English, which means he’d like to take over the world but he’s too polite…

His comedy show All Classical Music Explained has been broadcast by BBC Radio 4 in a 6-part series and sold out festivals across the world from Scotland to New Zealand. At its heart are those difficult questions: “why is organ music so boring?”; “what did Mozart steal from ABBA?” and “what do conductors actually do?” Whether you are a music professor or can’t tell string quartets from a string vest, relax: All Classical Music Explained will teach you nothing but it will make you laugh. Really laugh.

Rainer Hersch is a pianist, conductor and stand-up comedian who has appeared on every major comedy stage in Britain and abroad. In the UK he is known for his many radio appearances on ‘Loose Ends’, BBC Radio 4 documentaries and series about musical comedians of the past including All the Right Notes, Not Necessarily in the Right Order. As a conductor his credits include Friday Night is Music Night, and tours with orchestras from the Tasmanian Symphony to the St Petersburg Philharmonic.

Beyond the Barricade

Beyond the Barricade, the UK’s longest running Musical Theatre Concert Tour, is back. Join the cast for two hours of the best of Broadway and the West End, featuring the songs that have made audiences return over and over again for more than 25 years.

Enjoy numbers from The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, The Lion King, Blood Brothers, Miss Saigon, Hamilton and many others, climaxing with a spectacular finale from, of course, Les Misérables!

The concert tour will feature Andy Reiss, David Fawcett, Katie Leeming and Sarah Ryan who have all played principal roles in both the West End and UK Tours of Les Misérables, together with a live band who capture the feel of the original orchestrations of the chosen musicals.

To this day every musical note is still played and sung live – very rare indeed. Beyond the Barricade gives musical theatre songs a bold concert format treatment – but with the conviction and intention to deliver the material as if the audience are watching the original performance.

The Picture of Dorian Gray – A New Musical

Every picture tells a story…

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a brand-new musical based on Oscar Wilde’s timeless gothic tale.

Starring Kevin Kennedy (Rock of Ages, We Will Rock You, Coronation Street) as Mr Issacs. Dorian Gray has it all – youth, beauty and irresistible charm. But when a single wish binds his fate to a mysterious portrait, he discovers that perfection always comes at a cost.

Outwardly untouched by time and vices, Dorian remains the picture of perfection… while hidden away, his true soul etches itself into the canvas. As he grapples with the notion of possessing immortality and with the assistance of the influential Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian descends into an ever more debauched lifestyle of increasingly questionable morality. All the while, the painting absorbs his sins and wrongdoings into its canvas.

A powerful original score brings Victorian London to life in this dramatic new musical which is faithful to the original novel. Lavish, haunting and unforgettable, this is a story where nothing is quite as it seems – and every desire leaves its mark!
