Over the past few months we have been using our LED light display to help raise awareness for charities and celebrate National Days. Weymouth Pavilion is fitted with 32 lights around the main theatre building which are controlled individually, enabling our very talented tech team to create stunning light combinations and themes. So far, we have lit up for Huntington’s Disease, The RNLI, Lyme Disease, Diabetes Week, D Day and Veterans Weekend, with many more light ups to come.

From the 19th July – 22nd July we will be lighting up in blue and orange in support of Weymouth’s own M.V Freedom. The charity is an opportunity for people living with disabilities, (young and old) to experience a trip to sea.

M.V. Freedom is the second vessel to be operated by the charity and has been adapted to safely carry a maximum of 12 passengers including four wheelchair spaces. The boat is moored in Weymouth Harbour and is accessed by ramp opposite the council buildings. She is Skippered and Crewed by trained volunteers.

M.V Freedom sails on the stunning Jurassic Coastal waters of Dorset and provides sightseeing, fishing and picnic opportunities; their trip destinations vary between Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Portland Harbour depending on sea conditions.

One happy customer said, "I always enjoy the trips, the crew are very good and helpful, it is lovely to be to have the sea breeze in your hair, we have had some wonderful trips, I would fully recommend it to anyone".

M.V. Freedom was recognised for her work with people living with disability, by being trusted with the privilege of carrying the Olympic Flame for the 2012 Paralympic sailing events held in Portland Harbour. An extremely proud moment for all of the volunteers and passengers.

The charity is completely reliant on fund raising to survive, every penny donated is spent on the running, maintenance and promotion of M.V. Freedom. They are currently raising funds for a new boat.

Friends of M.V Freedom will be collecting donations in Weymouth town on the 20th July 2019 and at the end of Let’s Dance show at Weymouth Pavilion on the 19th July 2019.
