Max Bialystock is a failing Broadway producer, trading dalliances with wealthy old ladies in return for money to invest in his productions. Leo Bloom is his nerdy young accountant with an obsessive-compulsive need to cuddle his “blue blanket” in moments of stress.

Bloom realises that if Bialystock secures more financial backing than he needs for a show and that show is a subsequent flop, neither investors nor the taxman will suspect that Bialystock has actually made a large profit. In other words, secure investment in a play that is designed to fail and become very rich.

The couple seek out the worst play ever written; a sentimental musical about Adolf Hitler. To complete their scam, they hire a lead actor and director for their complete lack of talent. Now all they have to do is wait for the bad reviews. The plan is fool proof. What could possibly go wrong?

The Producers is a satirical musical comedy written by Mel Brooks. At the core of this insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. The show has everything; great musical numbers, great dancing, humour and satire.

This is the first show to be performed by Wessex Musical Theatre, formerly known as WOS (Weymouth Operatic). The society thought that a change of name was long overdue to reflect both its greater role in the community and more diverse range of performances.
